January is National Mentoring Month and Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Mexico is looking for men to help mentor boys in the state.
The organization says they always have a waiting list of children statewide that want a mentor and the waiting list for boys is especially long with hundreds of boys waiting to be matched with a mentor.
The mentors in the program serve as another trusted adult in these kids’ lives. They’re a friend, they provide guidance and advice, and help their little brother stay on the right course to become a successful adult. Bigs and Littles get together once or twice a month for a couple of hours at a time and stay connected.
While being a mentor isn’t a huge time commitment, it can make an immense difference in the lives of kids.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Outreach Coordinator Sebastian Martinez visited the set of New Mexico Living to further discuss the program while big brother Joe Wagner and little brother Phillip talked about their experiences with the organization.
