The Vortex Theatre presents, ‘Lysistrata: A Woman’s Translation’

The play, adapted from the play Aristophanes, takes place during the lengthy Peloponnesian war (431-404 BC) in which the Delian League led by Athens fought against the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta. A wife of one of the military leaders Lysistrata decides that women from both Athens and Sparta should hold relations until the men agree to negotiate. A play for mature audiences, it gives a 21st Century examination of women’s strength and the reasons for war.

The Vortex is Albuquerque’s oldest, continuously-running Black Box Theatre that has been pioneering classic, contemporary and cutting-edge theatre since 1976.

Event Details: February 8 through March 3, 2019, Fri-Sat 7:30 p.m.; Sun 2 p.m. Tickets are $24.
