Bernalillo County‘s Public Art program features more than four hundred works throughout the metro area. They have recently welcomed their latest creation to the Skyview Park in the village of Corrales.
The Gambel’s Quail was created by artist Tim Mullane after being commissioned to produce a sculpture for the “pocket park,” which the County acquired more than a year ago. The bronze work features two quails, birds that are native to the area.
Mullane says he hopes the sculpture will be received in “hands-on” fashion, encouraging guests to climb, touch and interact with the work. The artwork was dedicated on March 26 with dignitaries, neighborhood residents and the artist on-hand.
The public art program is an on-going initiative to encourage New Mexican artists to create works experienced by metro residents and visitors year-round.
