Opening this weekend at the Vortex Theatre is “Guards at the Taj,” an amusing and touching play inspired by myths related to the fate of the builders of the building.
The “Guards at the Taj,” sets place in India in 1648. Two imperial guards watch from their post as the sun rises for the first time on the newly-completed Taj Mahal—an event that shakes their respective worlds. When they are ordered to perform an unthinkable task, the aftermath forces them to question the concepts of friendship, beauty, and duty and changes them forever.
The show, by Rajiv Joseph, is directed by Marc Comstock.
Dates of the event are April 26 to May 19 from Friday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. There will be a preview April 25 at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, April 28 it is a pay-what-you-will event. Then, on May 5 there will be a talkback.
