New Mexico history documentary focused on Edmund G. Ross

Edmund G. Ross, a former Territorial Governor of New Mexico, was an abolitionist, journalist, civil war hero that played a pivotal role in New Mexico history.

New Mexico PBS has featured many programs in a series titled “Faces on the Mountain”. The documentary about Ross, is scheduled for broadcast on July 11 on Channel 5.

The program titled Freedom & Impeachment focuses on Ross and on his pivotal “not guilty” vote in the impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson, acquitting the president. It was an act memorialized in 1954 in John F. Kennedy’s “Profiles in Courage”. Kennedy appears in the documentary via kinescope.
