Parent at Hodgin Elementary raising money for school zoo trip

Summertime trips to the zoo is an experience every Albuquerque kid should have. However, for many low-income families, this may not be a reality.

Recent budget cuts to Title 1 schools have hindered summer jump-start programs from taking field trips to the zoo. Jody Berguist, a parent at Hodgin Elementary School is fighting to keep this summertime staple on the calendar.

Berguist says the price for each student is $1.50 and each parent/teacher/chaperone is 3$. The problem is the buses. Each bus costs $225 for a full day and the school needs four buses total.

Berguist is trying to raise $1,000 for the students so that they can attend their trip to the Albuquerque Zoo either on July 17 or any day after that until July 25.

Checks can be made out to the APS Board of Education or money can be donated to a PayPal account Any money sent to PayPal will be turned into a Cashiers check and directed to APS by Navy Federal.
