Colin Miller becomes first New Mexican finalist for Jimmy Awards

The Jimmy Awards, also known as the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City, are given annually to recognize performances by high school students in the United States.

No New Mexican has ever been selected as a final four, until now. Colin Miller has broken the mold and has become the first New Mexican to ever be selected as a finalist for the Jimmy Awards.

As a finalist, he performed a solo center stage in the Minskoff Theatre (where Disney’s The Lion King is performed) and was an audience favorite. They responded to his solo, “I Am Adopho” from The Drowsy Chaperone with laughter and extended applause. He also participated in the opening medley with all 86 Jimmy Awards nominees and in another medley celebrating classic musicals. His vocal coach during the week was Telly Leung, currently playing the title role in Aladdin on Broadway.

Colin won a $5,000 cash scholarship as one of the finalists.
