Gary Hines is a legend in his own right when it comes to food favorites in Albuquerque. He’s behind restaurants like Twister’s and Hurricane’s, which have been filling the stomachs of New Mexicans for years.
Now, he’s turned his attention to a restaurant endeavor a bit closer to his heart.
Stripes Biscuit Company is unique in a few ways. First, it’s devoted almost exclusively to biscuits: biscuit sandwiches, biscuit omelets and biscuit-batter waffles.
Second, it is literally putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to supporting veterans. Hines’ father was military, as is his son-in-law. Hines also volunteers at the VA hospital in Albuquerque. As a gesture of support, he donates 15% of his net proceeds to the hospital.
He says it’s a way to honor the memory of his father, as well as our retired and active servicemen and women.
Stripes has two full-service locations in Albuquerque, as well as two grab-and-go burrito stops.
