The first annual New Mexico Prickly Pear Festival will feature vendors selling a vast variety of prickly pear products, cooking demonstrations and a prickly pear cocktail competition. There will also be live music and art at the festival.
The fun event will have three live cooking demonstrations with chefs from the I-Collective, a group of indigenous chefs, farmers and seeds savers, that showcase the ways you can use prickly pear cactus and fruit at home using the Three Sisters Kitchen test kitchen.
There will also be a tastings of the many different varieties of prickly pear that grow in New Mexico, put on by the Desert Oasis Teaching Garden.
The Prickly Pear Festival is August 31 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Albuquerque on Gold Avenue, between Second Street and Third Street.
