Breaking down the stereotypes of what visitors might expect to see in “Peruvian Art Exhibit,” that’s the mission behind “El Peru: Art in the Contemporary Past”, now showing at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
The show features works from four different artists, as well as examples of pre-Columbian works, giving visitors perspective on the modern response to centuries-old works. The show includes ceramics, photography and interactive features utilizing 21st century technology.
Curator, Dr. Tey Marianna Nunn, says that this is the perfect time to bring NHCC’s first Peruvian show to the galleries. The New Mexico population of Peruvian natives is growing, as is national- and international- attention on the South American country.
“El Peru: Art in the Contemporary Past” runs now through May 31st of 2020.
