Fisher House Foundation provides lodging to military and veteran families in need

A “home away from home” for families of veterans and active duty service members receiving medical care, the Fisher House Foundation offers free temporary accommodations to families during a crisis.

Since its start in 1991, the Fisher House Foundation has served more than 368,000. In 2018 alone, more than 32,000 families have benefited from the organization’s facilities. The Fisher Houses offer free, temporary accommodations to the families of military members and veterans who are receiving medical care at military and VA medical centers.

The organization relies heavily on the local community as well as community-based organizations to help raise awareness towards their cause.

In Albuquerque, the Fisher House is almost complete. Located just steps away from the VA Hospital, the Fisher House is inside the main entrance of the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center at Gibson and San Mateo.

The New Mexico Fisher House will have 16 suites and families will share a common kitchen, laundry room, dining room, and living room. The House will be open for guests 24/7 with a manager present Monday through Friday.

On October 11, 2019, the Fisher House is scheduled to be deeded to the VA by the Fisher House Foundation.
