Earlier this year, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed House Bill 100 that replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous People’s Day. Next Monday New Mexico will celebrate its first statewide Indigenous People’s Day at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center.
The celebration will be hosted by the tribes of New Mexico and will feature a tribal entry parade, artist vendors and Native dances. Lt. Governor Howie Morales and Rep. Derrick Lente will also be at the event.
Parking is free and traditional festive attire is encouraged for tribal members.
Kick-off Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, October 14, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center located at 2401 12th Street NW in Albuquerque.
