Founded back in 2001 by Holocaust survivor Werner Gellert and his wife, the Holocaust & Intolerance Museum of New Mexico works to eliminate hate and intolerance one mind at a time. The museum will be holding its fourth annual fundraising and gala this month.
The To Life! 4th Annual Fundraiser and Gala will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Embassy Suites by Hilton located at 1000 Woodward Pl NE. Tickets to the event are $100 each and can be purchased online.
The gala and fundraiser benefits programs that build upstanders. Upstanders are individuals who take hate and intolerance and turn it into something positive.
“It makes it understandable for children to realize that when someone says or does something wrong based on hate or intolerance that it’s ok to stand up and say ‘that’s not right’ or it’s ok to report it to somebody,” said president of the museum Victor Raigoza.
State Auditor Brian Colon is this year’s first recipient of the Upstander Award who will be honored at the event.
