Bernalillo County looking to hire emergency communications operators

In life some things are simply out of our control and emergencies can happen at a moments notice. Director of Emergency Communications Vernon Thompson says people should call 911 when they have a valid emergency. He says people who have non-emergency related incidents should call 798-7000.

When calling 911 Thompson says it’s important people are clear on concise when answering some questions from the dispatcher. The dispatcher will need to know what’s the emergency, the address of where it happened, your phone number, your name and what specifically happened there.

All of these questions will help the first responders before they arrive to the scene.

Bernalillo County is hiring in its Emergency Communications Department. The department is comprised of trained and certified personnel that receive 911 and non-emergency calls for service, dispatch law enforcement and fire/rescue to the citizens in unincorporated Bernalillo County. The Emergency Communications Department runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
