Women delve into their own personal experiences in Adobe Theater’s ‘The Vagina Monologues’

“The Vagina Monologues” is an Obie Award-winning tour of a forbidden zone, this play includes a gathering of female voices and their own personal experiences. Director Leslee Richards and actress Gail Spidel discuss the production and its beginnings.

Leslie explains the playwright, Eve Ensler, was also a researcher who interviewed hundreds of women in the 1990s regarding their body parts. She discovered that women are never asked about their reproductive organs.

She states that once women were “allowed” to discuss the topic, they realized that were being acknowledged in a way that had never occurred before. This material was then dramatized for the stage.

The final performances of “The Vagina Monologues” will be held on Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Adobe Theater.
